We are grateful to Jan de Maere, Brussels, for confirming the authenticity of this picture. Immenraet was one of the main exponents of the Flemish landscape painting revivified by Lucas van Uden. In 1655 he was appointed Master of the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke. W. Bernt says of Immenraet, “In his lifetime he was a respected Antwerp painter. He produced Italianate landscapes with waterfalls, ruins and castles in collaboration with E. Biset (figural group) and W. van Ehrenberg (architecture)...”.
